Metaphysical Matchmaking

I am a matchmaker.

I got into the business quite haphazardly about 10 years ago. With Chiron the Healer in the Seventh House of Relationships in my birth chart, I still never imagined my own fate: to spend my life connecting people. In all my innocence, or shall we say ignorance, I have still managed to introduce twelve couples last year alone to marital bliss, and I instigated six engagements in 2006 so far, via Kelly Howard’s dinner club Eight Friends Out.

But I really only became aware of the universe’s plan for me last year, even though I had already been doing it for quite some time. Chiron is a planet that represents one who often does for others what he can’t do for himself. I have spent my life helping others make money (Capricorn) and/or helping them connect (Seventh House). And I like inspiring people, because when you get inspired, you get motivated, and I think life is about The Process.

Do something; do anything. It’s all good, as they say.

So, what’s metaphysical matchmaking? In my case, everything is! We attract who we need to be with, but in my business, I do try to facilitate that you connect with someone of like energy. Although opposites can and do attract, I prefer to put people together who are on similar wavelengths. In the matchmaking biz, we interview people in detail, but as a metaphysician, I am really also “feeling you out”. (as opposed to “feeling you up”! :))

I am detecting if you are air, earth, fire or water, because I want to find someone that will either ground you or lighten you, or whatever else you need. I am an astrologer, so I do indeed use astrology to help connect people.

Astrology is the only means I know to objectively uncover the “chemistry factor”. Many times, in the singles business, we can find people with whom you have basic compatibility—similar interests, backgrounds, or goals. The one thing that usually can’t be accounted for is the “chemistry factor”. But astrology can nail that!

Astrology has clear indicators of karmic connections and chemistry. The most common thing to look for is a Sun/Moon or Sun/Venus connector between charts, but I also look for the same Moon sign in the 2 charts, or for a Saturn connection to a small planet. Saturn is a karmic binder, the planet of marriage—for indeed, marriage is about commitment and connection.

Saturn represents the karmic handcuffs that enable us to link up for a journey of shared experiences. I also suggest that people find someone born 30 to 60 days before or after their birthday. Why? Because one chart will progress to the other, eventually, and as that happens, the two can become one.

Recently, I had a friend call me and say, “I just can’t see straight to pay to meet someone.” (You know who you are! ;)) What I wanted to say but didn’t, is this, “You get what you pay for.”

This is true in metaphysics as well as in everyday life, and so it is true in romance too. If you want a freebie, you’ll get a freebie—a non-generous person who forgets your birthday or Valentine’s Day, or who takes you out to dinner at Luby’s with a coupon. I have known people surprised when their cheap date took them to a happy hour where free food (chips and dips) were served, and then they expressed disappointment in the venue.
If you really want a guy or lady who values you, a good place to start is someplace where they have paid to meet you---and I DON’T mean just $10.

Although I don’t recommend the dating services for other reasons, you need to find someone who has paid a moderate amount to meet you. That means they are serious, and they want to meet someone worthwhile. Aren’t you worth it? Yes, you are!

This is why I recommend that people join clubs, or hire a matchmaker, because you know that the people involved are seriously looking. You also know they must have a steady job, since they can afford the matchmaker or club fee. (Let’s get practical, friends!)

Two major complaints I hear from singles in the metaphysical world is, “the people are all broke”, or “I know everybody already, and it’s lean pickin’s.” Remember, there are other people out there who share your values, even if they don’t believe in healing or hang in metaphysical circles. I usually find those who lean left politically, and, often, Catholics, are very agreeable or open to metaphysical topics. Besides, you never know where you are going to meet someone who shares your values and beliefs.

With the advent of so many metaphysically oriented bestsellers and mass media movies, the groundwork is being laid for us to connect with the “wicky-wacky” in everybody. All you have to do is find out what weird thing has happened to each individual, and there you have the opening.

That’s my job as a matchmaker: to find out where the person stands and to gauge what leeway we have and what connections are possible.

When people balk at spending the matchmaker fee, I just suggest to get an astrology reading. It’s a fraction of the cost, and then we can find out WHEN you will have a relationship.

With that info in hand, we can decide if it’s worth it for you to spend the matchmakers fee. If it turns out that you are going back to your ex in two weeks, I am not going to recommend that you hire me or join a singles club.

If it looks like the chart recommends an expansion of your social life—or if I can see you are about to go through the “boy buffet” or “girl buffet”, made possible by Mars or Jupiter transiting a social or partnership arena, then maybe it IS time to hook up with the pros—or, just GO OUT more!

There is indeed a time and a season for everything. Become aware of your patterns, and don’t be afraid to try new things. Even if you go to an event that has too many of one gender or the other, don’t let that stop you. One of those people may be your soul mate, and he or she may be just waiting for you to show up.
